Benefits of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is good for all health conditions and challenges. It is a common treatment for depression, stress, headaches, and immune system issues. There are no negative side effects when you work with a qualified aromatherapist.

Aromatherapy & Essential Oils

Aromatherapy, or as come call it, "Essential Oil Therapy", incorporates essential oils that come from flowers, leaves, bark, and roots. Oils come from different places, depending on the type of plant. A variety of methods are used to extract the oil, the most widespread form being steam distillation. After the extraction, the liquid on top of the water is the highly concentrated "oil" that will have the aroma of the plant along with the therapeutic properties particular to that plant. The liquid on the bottom is the "hydrosol", which is a diluted but equally important property. The oil on top is 100 percent pure, 100 percent natural, and contains the full therapeutic, emotional, and energetic properties of the plant. Because the oil is highly concentrated, you will need only a few drops to produce the results you intend. In this case, less is more. Essential oils are not "oily" and thus are volatile, meaning they will evaporate, so be sure to recap the bottle when you are done using it. Each aromatherapy treatment is different because of where the oil came from. Oils work physically, emotionally and energetically to bring wellness into your internal body.

Applying Oils

There are different ways to use oils, including inhalation and topical application. You can put them in your bath water, spray them around you, or apply them on your body after a shower. There are also internal applications which I have not taken the needed formal education to be a consultant for this. Therefore, if you desire to take essential oils internally I strongly suggest you seek the guidance of a thoroughly trained therapist, not a "seller" of essential oils, as your internal organs are at stake!

When you inhale one of these oils, they interact with your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress level and hormone balance. They help improve your mood and general state of mind, because molecules are transferred into the limbic system of the brain and body. When applied topically, the oils are absorbed by your skin's oil and sweat glands, immediately improving your immune system, increasing circulation and beginning detoxification.

Applying Oils

The following are other various ways to incorporate essential oils into your daily life:

Take a Sniff

Inhale directly from the bottle or put a few drops on a tissue & sniff.
Almost every essential oil will have some effect when used in this manner.

Try a diffuser

Diffusers range from simple evaporative devices to sophisticated nebulizers, infusing the air with microscopic droplets of pure essential oils.

Taking a bath

Take a tub bath

Make it a warm bath because you want the oils to soak into your skin, not sweat out. Add 6-12 drops of essential oil to a filled tub, swish the oil around so it is evenly dispersed.

Use a compress

Add 4-15 drops oil to 1 quart of warm water for arthritis, cramps, muscle pain, cold for tension, bruises, headaches. Soak a cloth in the mix, wring out excess, apply to affected area.

Make a Spray

Take a small spray top bottle, fill it with distilled water and add 5-10 drops of the essential oil. The spray quickly adds a wonderful therapeutic fragrance to the air in any room. Put your oils in first, then the distilled water. (2 oz) You can also add ½ oz vodka to extend the life of oils.

Rub Your Feet

Add 15 drops of oil or blend to one teaspoon of jojoba. Massage onto bottom of feet and let soak in (about 10 minutes). Be extra careful when you stand or walk.

Soaking Feet

Massage

Enjoy a Massage

Add 8 to 12 drops of essential oil to 1 oz of massage oil fora general whole-body massage, or 15 to 20 drops oil to 1 oz for intensive action to relieve a specific, smaller area of discomfort.

Tent Yourself

Add 4 to 10 drops of essential oil to 1 quart of very hot water in a glass bowl. Cover both head and bowl with a towel and deeply breathe the vapors. Do not let the face touch the hot water. CAUTION: Use only ONE (1) drop of Eucalyptus Essential Oil!
